We selected K003 Red 20ml for the test. To keep things fair, we compared it against the popular Mr. Hobby H Series Red (10ml), thinned 1:1 with thinner.

Test conditions were standardized: spraying on white test shells, each measuring 10×5 cm, which we’ve used in previous tests—equipment: GHPM-Mobius 0.3mm airbrush set at 25 PSI, powered by the GTX-778 compressor. By the way, we previously did an “unseen test” video on the GTX-778—if you haven’t seen it yet, we highly recommend checking it out. It’s a fun one!
All set-let’s begin. First up: Kaleido
K003 Red 20ml bottle. We sprayed as usual, aiming for full, opaque coverage. Next: Mr. Hobby. Since the H Series isn’t pre-thinned, we prepared it first - pouring 10ml of paint into a bottle, adding 10ml of thinner, measuring precisely with a scale, and then spraying.
After spraying, we let the shells cure for 24 hours before comparing. On the left: Kaleido. On the right: Mr. Hobby. Same conditions, same procedure. The results surprised us: Kaleido 20ml = 41 shells Mr. Hobby 10ml (thinned 1:1 to 20ml) = 25 shells. That’s a 64% difference in coverage. Each shell is 50 cm², so 41 shells equals 2050 cm² of coverage, all from a single 20ml bottle of Kaleido.
So, this is roughly how much coverage you can expect from one 20ml Kaleido ColorWorks. Of course, this isn’t a lab-perfect measurement, but it’s a solid reference. More importantly, although Kaleido comes pre-thinned, that doesn’t mean weaker coverage. On the contrary-thanks to nano-level pigments, you get stronger coverage, smoother finishes, and more vivid colors. Pre-thinned simply means easier, faster use.
We’re thrilled with the results of this test and hope it gives you a clearer idea of Kaleido’s capabilities. Got questions? Leave a comment! Right now, we also have an Early Bird 20% OFF promotion, plus Buy 5 Get 1 Free and Buy 1 Get 1 Free offers. For more promotions visit:
